Fish live in water, so they share its emotional colour: clear or murky, calm or rough. A continuity reading might connect catching a fish with getting hold of an opportunity, and a fish slipping away with something you could not keep. In some families and cultures, dreaming of fish is widely believed to announce a pregnancy, and hearing that belief can itself shape what people dream and remember.

Dream books around 1900 read fish in clear water as favour from powerful people and dead fish as loss. In Russian and several other folk traditions, fish dreams are also widely linked with pregnancy. These are beliefs, not predictions.
