A resposta breve

Water in dreams is often read as the emotional weather of the dream. Calm, clear water and dark, rising water feel very different, and that difference is usually the clue.

Pesquisa

No research gives water one fixed meaning, but dreamers very often describe water in emotional terms: calm, murky, overwhelming, refreshing. A continuity reading uses that. Rising water or drowning dreams frequently appear when people feel swamped by work, grief or other people's needs. Clear water can come with relief or a fresh start. The NEXTUP model suggests the dreaming brain searches for images that fit a feeling, and water is one of the most flexible images we have.

História

Artemidorus read the sea and other waters according to their state: calm water favoured the dreamer's plans, while rough or troubled water signalled difficulties, with the exact reading depending on the dreamer's work and circumstances.

Tradição popular

Tradição, não ciência

Tradição: American popular dream books, around 1900

Popular dream dictionaries around 1900 read clear water as good fortune and muddy water as trouble ahead. We report this as tradition, not prediction.

Perguntas para você refletir

  1. Was the water calm, murky, rising or still? Which of those matches how you feel lately?
  2. Were you in control in the water, or carried along?
  3. What feels like too much to hold right now, or what would feel refreshing?
